Merry Christmas!

I have always taken great pleasure in snowy scenes of winter and although it is not exactly snowy where my family and I are spending the Christmas and New Year holidays, it is still rather cold.  Burrr.

I would like to wish you and yours the merriest of Christmases, wherever you might find yourself today, and a very happy and healthy New Year.

Normal posting will resume in early January.  I do hope you'll come back then to share in my adventures.

  1. Warm good wishes from a hot and rather clammy Bangkok, bathed in full moonshine. But there is just enough breeze to have enjoyed a glass or two of champagne on the balcony, and now I'm heading back there for an aperitif after a delish roasted chicken supper a deux. It has been surprisingly lovely. (It can ONLY be surprisingly lovely, IMHO!!)

Good wishes to you and yours.

    1. Perhaps the mood was much helped by watching the choir of King's College singing their Christmas Eve carol service, last night on the Beeb. Heaven, appropriately enough. Attending that would certainly be on my bucket list. Now I need to get planning!

  3. Hello CD, A Happy Christmas and New Year to you and your family.

I love your small wintry painting. I think that if the artist lived into the early 20th century, he must have been one of those painting the night scene postcards which were so popular, and which feature similar moon and cloud effects. There is nothing like having the original, though!

  5. Dear Chronica,

I am also a fan of snowy scenes. Any that show up at auction get my attention. You have good taste, lol.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas from LA, where we actually had rain a few days ago.

  6. "In the bleak mid-winter
    Frosty wind made moan,
    Earth stood hard as iron,
    Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
    Snow on snow,
    In the bleak mid-winter
    Long ago."

Merry Christmas CD. Hope you and all the family have a wonderful time. D&P.

  8. CD,
A belated Merry Christmas to you. I was inspired by a previous post to place a bit of holiday greenery over the painting over our mantle. This little painting of yours is lovely.
    Enjoy your holiday time.

  9. How lovely to have your light pop on on my sidebar, and I know you are having a splendiferous Holiday. I can see the lovely tree and the table, the firelight and the family gathered, with sips of sherry, toasts with champagne, and most important, endless cups of tea as you share marvelous conversation and just being together.

Ours has been rather quiet, after the two-week flurry of FOUR Grands in the house, and we did have two of them to Christmas Eve, with all the attendant gleams and flickers and presents and Chris' incomparable filets mignons xizzling from the grill. Another group will arrive on 28th, to depart just hours before another drove descend on New Year's Eve. What a marvelous time this is!

Then Christmas morning, with just the three of us "of the house," with our own presents-to-each-other and a simple brunch upstairs by the tree. Afternoon naps, if you can believe, with me here skipping around the world, and thoroughly enjoying other folks' bright decorations and festivities, especially some of your archived posts. I was absolutely enchanted anew by your Dad's tailoring tales, and simply marvel at the hands and eye which can create such things of beauty with stitches and thread.

When you have the chance, hold one of those talented hands for a moment, and tell him of a faraway stranger who is smiling this minute, thinking of all the things and people and events witnessed by his beautiful creations, and enhanced by the sheer magnificence of his magical gift.

Best faraway wishes for a splendid Boxing Day, and many more toasts and teacups and candle-light in your days as this year flickers into the New.
