Sadly, I believe most, if not all, of the other antiques shows in our area have vanished over the last decade.

Yes, I must get on and photograph a few of the mourning pieces. My last attempt failed miserably due to the reflections of the glass that protects them, ugh. But first, I need to publish the third and final installment to the tailoring series, which I should have complete in the next few days, fingers crossed.Chronica Domushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06732224119040843337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2454554472800124620.post-5841918683801198782014-10-31T16:29:44.677-07:002014-10-31T16:29:44.677-07:00What a wonderful tour you've arranged for us C...What a wonderful tour you've arranged for us CD! I only wish that this included lunch with you and pal Jeanette. Everything you've highlighted was interesting due to the great pics and insightful commentary. I'm certain that the catalog and local coverage wasn't nearly as well written as this post!

I anxiously await reading of your mourning hair art.GSLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04903412564467078538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2454554472800124620.post-56840493142105798692014-10-30T15:56:21.401-07:002014-10-30T15:56:21.401-07:00Hello Jim,

I'm glad to read that you enjoyed the photo of the nugget. I actually walked right past it at first, diverted by some rather lovely early Fred Lyon photographs of San Francisco hanging on the walls behind the display case of gold rush era items.

I think you make a good point about those molds being overly polished. I broke down (against my better judgement) and purchased one several years ago from an antiques shop in Hertfordshire. I loved it because it was not overly shiny and had an interesting shape. I could easily form a nice collection of these things but I'm holding back as I fear I wouldn't know where it would all end if mold number two entered my world.Chronica Domushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06732224119040843337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2454554472800124620.post-64618488070180714442014-10-30T15:04:27.605-07:002014-10-30T15:04:27.605-07:00Hello CD, I had just read about the sale of that ...Hello CD, I had just read about the sale of that gold nugget, and enjoyed seeing this much better photo. You featured many great items here. The tole urns are probably very rare, but then your basalt-ware is exceptionally beautiful and classical. I loved the impressive display of copper, but it points out one cavil here--everything seems a little too polished, organized and perfect. I like a hint of age and mystery with my antiques.

As soon as I saw the nautical "voyage of love" painting, the words "In the voyage of life Love our pilot will be. He'll sit at the helm, wherever we rove..." started going through my head. The painting perfectly illustrates George Morris' c.1840 poem Open Thy Lattice Love, with the most famous musical setting by Stephen Foster.
--Jim

Parnassushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08958901307538141468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2454554472800124620.post-61692990537078269172014-10-29T18:00:22.957-07:002014-10-29T18:00:22.957-07:00Karen, indeed, these are the best kind of shopping...Karen, indeed, these are the best kind of shopping trips, the vicarious ones!

I'll soon be posting on another exhibit that I recently attended in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago that you may enjoy so keep an eye out for that (but first, I suppose I'll have to post Part III in my series, oops).

Thanks for stopping by.Chronica Domushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06732224119040843337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2454554472800124620.post-32217408754128596752014-10-29T17:23:19.565-07:002014-10-29T17:23:19.565-07:00I used to attend an annual show in Orange County t...I used to attend an annual show in Orange County that was impressive. I'm not sure they still have that show. I've forgotten the name of the show but it was held in some of the buildings at the O.C. Fair grounds. I love visiting exhibits that are filled with quality items. This was fun, kind of an armchair shopping trip.
xo,
KarenKarenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08064699521293763744noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2454554472800124620.post-64451415177947983452014-10-29T10:11:13.027-07:002014-10-29T10:11:13.027-07:00Hello AD,

It truly is the best time of year to be in the city as the weather is perfectly warm and sunny, and all signs of fog have been banished for another time.

Chronica Domushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06732224119040843337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2454554472800124620.post-68260626054294594792014-10-29T09:51:18.893-07:002014-10-29T09:51:18.893-07:00Looks like a great show!
