I have much to be thankful for, not only today, this Thanksgiving Day, but each and every day.  I am thankful that all the preparations are finally in place so that in a few short hours, when our guests arrive, we shall break bread together and enjoy a bountiful meal of home-cooked fare and delicious wines.

I am thankful for my family's health and happiness, and for our continued good fortune and sanity.

  2. Hello CD, I guess you are in the midst of cleaning up now, but somehow I never minded that part of having people over. After Thanksgiving, especially, I threw any leftover turkey, chicken and goose bones into a big pot and made some incredibly rich stock.

    1. Jim, I hit the pillow around 3 a.m. this morning, high on the fumes of the evening's festivities. Like you, I don't at all mind the aftermath of hosting such a gathering, standing at the kitchen sink washing the silver and the blizzard of dishes that drifts into the kitchen during the course of the evening.

The turkey's leftovers were picked over and fed to our beloved canine companion as a special Thanksgiving treat, and also shared among the feral cats that I feed by my house. They too had something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

  5. CD,
I'm so happy to see your table completely set with the natures bounty as well as your lovely pieces, collected over the years.
Thanksgiving is such a great reminder for all of us to stop and revel in our blessings, and be thankful for pumpkin pie with whipped cream!

    1. Karen, how right you are. Much to be thankful for this year, including the pumpkin pie with dollops of whipped cream, which my guests polished off with alacrity.

    1. Thank you, gésbi, I'm glad you like the table and my CD monogrammed dessert service. I particularly enjoy using it at Thanksgiving because of the color, and was fortunate enough to find the set complete with 17 cups and saucers, 17 dessert plates, two small serving platters, a teapot, a waste bowl, and a sugar basin. I can serve a small army pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving day.

    1. Hello J.W.,

Yes, those are rather special, and I had fun writing out a special place card to include in this posting.

Happy belated birthday to you, and I do hope your birthday celebrations were memorable last Thursday.

  8. Dear CD,
Good cheer, good health and warm wishes for the holiday season to you and yours. I love your blog, your French porcelain and those splendid turkey place card holders.
What are those green berries interspersed with the pumpkins and persimmons?
    Best,

  9. Hello KL Gaylin,

Thank you for the profuse good wishes and felicitations you send my way. I too wish you the same for this holiday season. I'm pleased as punch that you are still enjoying the blog, To answer your question, I believe the green berries are immature willow pods. At least that is my best guess. In the larger central arrangement, I also included a number of little green Pineapple Guava (botanically Acca sellowiana, I believe). Much like a regular guava, they are sweet and aromatic. I adore both their flavor and their appearance.

  10. A belated Happy Thanksgiving to you! I love your beautiful and classic table setting. I'm sure your guests would have had a wonderful time sitting down to such a beautiful table. When you see so many overwrought tablescapes on magazines/ blogs and pinterest, it's refreshing to see something that shows simplicity and good taste will always trump tizz!
